Martin Johnson

American, Born 1951

Martin Brian Johnson was born in New Jersey and has settled in Virginia after living in New York. He received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and completed an MFA from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Johnson’s early solo exhibitions were at Phyllis Kind Gallery in both New York and Chicago, and he participated in the Rooms project at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in New York in the late 1970s and early 1980s, where he first met the Vogels. Johnson’s paintings and sculptures have been exhibited throughout the southeast and are included in numerous museum collections.
