Since his first one-man show in 1977, Sultan has enjoyed a distinguished career as painter, printmaker, and sculptor. Although his work has developed over the years, the powerful statement they make has not changed. He incorporates basic geometric and organic forms with a formal, sparse composition that is at once subtle and monumental. This work exemplifies the weightiness of his arrangement of forms, with equal emphasis in both positive and negative spaces. He once described his work as having "heavy structure, holding fragile meaning."
