Larry Poons was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1937 and grew up in New York City. He initially studied music at New England Conservatory of Music but shifted to visual art in the late 1950s. Poons, over the span of his lengthy career, has been a participant of movements such as Op art, hard-edge painting, color field, and Lyrical and Abstract Expressionism.
