Dry Creek Shorty
Richard Nonas was born in New York in 1936. He trained as an anthropologist but began creating sculptures in his thirties, drawing inspiration from his ethnological fieldwork. Nonas’s early works, such as Dry Creek Shorty, are a response to his observations of the Papago tribe of Mexico’s Sonora Desert and the role of cultural difference on experiences of space and place.
