Untitled

Drawing: Oil pastel on wove paper
18 1/8 x 14 15/16 in.
Date: 1983

Between 1975 and 1985, Steve Keister created planar sculptures composed of brightly painted plywood joined at dynamic angles and affixed with what the artist calls “eccentric” materials, including animal skins, seashells, and mirrored Plexiglas. Untitled, 1983, is a study for one of these sculptures. The brown lines delineate the edges of the sculpture, while the black lines give the viewer an “x-ray” view through the piece.
