Denise Green was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1946. She studied at Ecole des Beaux Arts and Universite de Paris and moved to New York in 1969 where she received her MFA from Hunter College. Since her graduation she has exhibited internationally, collaborated as an editor for Colombia University’s Semiotext(e) and teaches at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. Regarding her work she states, “I started conceptualizing with drawings, simplifying my ideas and subject-matter. I could conceptualize much faster on paper, and drawing also enforced a certain rigidity and discipline … work on paper is so much more accessible, more intimate.”1
