Laemmle describes her work as symbolist. She uses images to tell the story of her childhood and its impact on her adult life. Her drawings and paintings of animals, especially birds, have a surreal edge - often with missing elements, which makes them slightly disturbing or mysterious. Her works are provocative and portray a strong concern for the future of the environment.
