Jill Levine was born in New York in 1953. She received her BA at Queens College in 1975 and later studied at the Royal College of Art in London and received an MFA from Yale University School of Art in 1977. She is best known for her small-scale, biomorphic, graphically ornamented wall sculptures constructed from Styrofoam, Bondo, and modeling compounds. This early example shown here, though two-dimensional, shares the biomorphic shapes that become three-dimensional in her later works.
